Product Compliance Engineer

About the role

ABB Drive Products, which supplies drives and programmable logic controllers (PLC) to industry and infrastructure, is hiring a Product Compliance Engineer in Beijing. The role reports to the Senior Engineering Manager and covers certifications, standards and regulatory compliance for electric drives and power converters.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, manage, apply and maintain certifications of electric drives and power converters.
• Act as an expert in certifications, regulations and standards within the defined compliance areas.
• Transfer product standard requirements to the R&D community so designs meet the standards.
• Carry out risk assessments, plan type tests and certifications, communicate with authorities, conduct factory audits and support designers and customers.
• Review R&D design outputs against compliance requirements and guide the design when it conflicts with standards.
• Work with design engineers to prepare technical and quality documents for third-party certification bodies, and lead communication with them on progress and technical matters.
• Support internal and external customers on product compliance and act as a proactive member of the R&D organisation.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Power Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Automation or a related field; experience in an agile development environment is a plus.
• Sound knowledge of compliance requirements such as electrical safety, EMC or radio approvals, and ability to combine test items from different standards.
• Knowledge of electric drives, power converters or radio equipment, and of quality management systems.
• Fluent English, excellent written and spoken communication, and the ability to represent the project team to third-party certification bodies.
• Spontaneous, practical and precise approach, quality-process orientation, and a team player.

Required skills

• Preferred: knowledge of testing in low-voltage power modules and familiarity with testing instruments.
• Preferred: experience in an agile development environment.
