Customer Engineer – ETCH (Field Service)

About the role

As a Customer Engineer – ETCH at Applied Materials you will be the primary liaison with customers in Shenzhen, installing, maintaining and upgrading advanced semiconductor equipment. You will use digital analytics and diagnostic techniques to resolve technical issues while ensuring high‑quality service.

Key responsibilities

• Install, maintain and upgrade customer ETCH equipment.
• Apply basic diagnostic techniques and digital analytics to assess and resolve equipment issues, with support from senior engineers.
• Collaborate with senior engineers and customers to understand roadmaps, process flows and business challenges.
• Train and mentor junior field service engineers.
• Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on electrical, vacuum, mechanical, plasma, hydraulic and gas systems.
• Coordinate and communicate directly with customers to ensure smooth operations.
• Fulfill additional duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Associate degree, military technical training, field service experience or trade certification.
• 4‑7 years of experience in the semiconductor or equipment support industry.
• Advanced mechanical aptitude with pneumatics, hydraulics, electronics, vacuum and thermodynamics.
• Strong knowledge of hand tools and digital multimeters.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Basic proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain a passport for travel.
