Commercial Director (Pharma), China & Hong Kong

About the role

Brenntag is looking for a Commercial Director covering China and Hong Kong in the pharmaceutical sector, based in Shanghai. The role leads commercial plans and sales strategies, manages key customer relationships and builds and develops the sales team.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, plan and implement commercial plans and sales strategies for China and Hong Kong, allocating resources accordingly
• Optimize margins through pricing and contract negotiations
• Manage relationships with key and major customers and drive a customer-oriented, execution-focused culture
• Build and lead an internal and external sales team with clear accountabilities and KPIs, and develop team capability through performance management and mentoring
• Partner with Business Development, Customer Service and Industry Market Managers, and contribute to product development projects
• Improve CRM reporting, provide sales forecasts and monthly and quarterly reports to suppliers and management, and align local country strategies with the Pharma BU's regional supplier strategies
• Stay up to date on industry trends, market conditions and competitor activity
• Recruit staff together with talent acquisition, lead and evaluate the team, and ensure a competitive remuneration structure linked to performance
• Travel to customers as needed and perform other assigned tasks

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in pharmaceutical manufacturing, biopharmaceuticals, pharmaceutical chemistry or a related field; a Master's degree is a plus
• At least 15 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, including several years at management level
• Fluent written and spoken Mandarin is mandatory; proficient written and spoken English is essential
• Ability to travel to customers as needed and to work independently with minimal supervision
