Software Engineer – Ubuntu Commercial Computers

About the role

Canonical's OEM Delivery Team is looking for a Software Engineer to ensure Ubuntu runs smoothly on commercial computers for OEM and ODM customers. You will work with world‑leading partners, contribute to open‑source projects, and travel internationally as needed.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with project managers and Field/QA engineers to identify, triage, and resolve critical system‑level issues.
• Work with upstream projects to apply patches for bugs affecting OEM/ODM customers and champion locally‑developed patches for upstream inclusion.
• Provide software and system engineering services to OEM and ODM customers, including occasional travel to the EU, USA, China, and Taiwan.

Required profile

• Active participation in open‑source development projects.
• Strong passion for Linux and open‑source ecosystems.
• Excellent English communication skills, especially in online environments such as mailing lists and IRC.
• Proven time‑management abilities and self‑motivation in a globally distributed team.

Required skills

• Linux system knowledge and debugging expertise.
• Experience with open‑source contribution workflows.
