Senior Software Engineer, Backend, Monetization

About the role

Duolingo's Monetization Pillar covers subscriptions, ads and in-app purchases, aiming to build premium experiences for learners while supporting the sustainability of its business model. As a senior backend engineer, you will help shape the direction of monetization by developing and refining the methods that make it more effective and efficient, working cross-functionally with product, design, data science, machine learning and ad operations.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate on software projects with product and design teams, covering both product and backend aspects.
• Develop, release and maintain backend services and/or infrastructure.
• Lead individual project priorities and milestones, ensuring continuous delivery.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
• Experience programming in Java, Python or Kotlin.
• Solid understanding of one or more database technologies.

Required skills

• Strong competencies in data structures, algorithms and software design.
• Nice to have: experience building high-traffic APIs with public cloud providers.
• Nice to have: experience with observability tools such as OpenTelemetry, Grafana, Prometheus or DataDog.
