Senior Applied Data Scientist - Fulfillment & Logistics

About the role

Flexport, which provides ecommerce merchants with factory-to-door logistics solutions, is looking for a Senior Applied Data Scientist in Shanghai. The role builds automated decision-making processes that help meet merchants' expectations for fulfillment speed and reliability while growing the network cost-efficiently. You will work with product, engineering and operations teams to apply Operations Research and Machine Learning methods to the fulfillment products.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop models and algorithms to improve the fulfillment network, including optimal inventory management and reliable delivery service.
• Work with the business and product teams to reduce the variable cost of the fulfillment network by identifying cost-saving opportunities and proposing solutions.
• Turn business needs into actionable development plans and execute them on projects that impact business goals.
• Work cross-functionally with Data Science, Engineering, Product, Planning and Operations to implement production processes and reporting that achieve KPIs.
• Contribute to data science and analytics best practices for the team and across the organization.

Required profile

• Degree in a quantitative field such as Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science or Econometrics.
• 5+ years of industry experience solving optimization and/or machine learning problems and building practical, automated solutions.
• Experience developing and maintaining end-to-end data science production processes, including data modeling, algorithm development, testing and metric tracking.
• Software engineering experience with a strong understanding of system architecture.
• A "compliance first" attitude, given the highly regulated nature of the industry.

Required skills

• Proficiency with frontier AI models to spot business growth and cost-saving opportunities.
• Proficiency with Python and SQL.
• Preferred: Snowflake, dbt and data visualization/reporting tools such as Looker.
