Safety & Regulation Engineer – Ship Design Compliance

About the role

The Safety & Regulation Engineer will ensure ship design drawings meet IMO, classification society and national regulations. Based in Shanghai, the role supports pre‑contract services and collaborates with clients and internal teams to deliver compliant technical solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Review ship design drawings for compliance with IMO, classification society rules and national maritime regulations.
• Perform technical examinations of drawings using the latest BV rules, international standards and technical guidance under manager supervision.
• File and preserve approved drawings, calculations, and related documentation, ensuring BV stamps and software are correctly applied.
• Assist BV surveyors during construction, liaise with head office and clients to resolve technical issues, and maintain up‑to‑date BV regulatory documents.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Naval Architecture, Offshore Engineering, Marine Engineering or related field.
• Strong theoretical knowledge of ship design and proven experience in plan approval.
• Good command of written and spoken English.
• Ability to work under pressure, independently and as part of a team.

Required skills

• Ship design drawing review and compliance assessment.
• Knowledge of IMO regulations and classification society rules.
• Familiarity with national maritime regulations and BV technical guidance.
• Use of computer tools for document management and technical calculations.
