Optical Module Software/Firmware Intern

About the role

Marvell is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented software/firmware intern to join its technical team in Suzhou or Shanghai, with the internship carried out at the Marvell Wuhan or Shanghai/Suzhou offices. The role gives hands-on experience with PAM4 DSP, Coherent DSP and coherent optical technologies, and focuses on software/firmware support for customer firmware development and testing. Interns work closely with senior FAEs and the U.S. application team to support customer engagements, debug hardware and software systems and help optimise optical module performance.

Key responsibilities

• Work with senior FAEs on customer module firmware and software development
• Help build equipment control scripts for lab automation tests
• Support lab activities that tune and optimise customer modules under the guidance of experienced engineers
• Take part in product bring-up and evaluation, including initial software setup, TX/RX performance testing and reporting issues
• Contribute to technical documentation, FAQs and internal training materials
• Join onsite or remote customer support sessions to help debug and resolve issues
• Learn and apply internal software tools for development, analysis and debugging
• Assist with customer firmware development: image flashing, configuration, register access and status/log collection over I2C/MDIO
• Support module control and management features and compliance checks (e.g. CMIS 5.x, 8636)

Required profile

• Pursuing a Master's degree in Software, Computer Science, Electronics/Electrical/Control Engineering or a related field
• Comfortable with C and Python, able to write small utilities and read/modify embedded code
• Strong willingness to learn, effective communication and a collaborative mindset
• Able to commit at least 4-6 months or more
• Experience with DCA, BERT or other test equipment is a strong advantage
• Knowledge of signal and power integrity is a plus; experience with ADS or HFSS is desirable
