About the role

Build AI is a data hyperscaler for physical labour, collecting the largest dataset of physical labour in the world and scaling to 1 billion hours over the next two years. It gives wearable cameras to field teams and partners, who recruit workers, assign devices, pay them to wear the cameras and upload footage. The Head of Software builds and leads the Shenzhen software team that writes the software behind this process.

Key responsibilities

• Hire and lead the Shenzhen software team, setting the hiring bar, technical direction and pace, staying hands-on as the team grows.
• Own the vendor platform: an Android and web app that coordinates operators, partners and vendors in sourcing, onboarding and paying contributors and businesses, covering device assignment, attendance, collection tracking, payments and fraud/loss prevention.
• Own partner growth: referral programs and forecasting models for how much data partners can collect.
• Own data infrastructure: upload, storage and processing pipelines running at petabytes per month and growing 10x a year.
• Own data QA: orchestrate, train and fine-tune models for a pipeline that catches bad data automatically.
• Own recruiting tools and anything else blocking scale; work directly with the founders and the global ops team, owning outcomes end to end.

Required profile

• Has built and led an engineering team, including hiring strong engineers.
• Has built and shipped software that real users depend on, and stays hands-on.
• Comfortable across frontend, backend, APIs and databases.
• Fluent in English and able to be based in Shenzhen full time.
• Nice to have: Android app development, data pipelines, large file uploads, ML/QA systems, and hiring experience in Shenzhen.
• Can start immediately.
