Design Engineer – Mechanical Design & Product Development

About the role

The Design Engineer will lead and support the development of customized mechanical products and new platforms, from concept through launch. Working closely with sales, engineering, sourcing and quality teams, you will translate customer needs into viable, manufacturable solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with sales to evaluate new product ideas and define technical specifications.
• Prepare product proposals, approval drawings and detailed documentation for customer review.
• Lead new‑product development projects from initial design to launch, ensuring schedule and specification compliance.
• Create and maintain item/BOM data and technical records in the ERP system.
• Design components and assemblies using sound engineering principles, customer requirements and applicable standards.
• Generate 3D models, 2D drawings, procedures and bills of materials.
• Work with sourcing and quality teams to maximise manufacturability and qualify new vendors.
• Build prototypes, conduct performance tests and perform cost‑out and value‑engineering studies.
• Perform competitive analysis, teardown and technical reporting.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related fields such as Ship & Marine, Energy & Power).
• Minimum 3 years of mechanical design experience, including knowledge of machining, casting, welding and pressure‑vessel design.
• Familiarity with marine engine systems, P&I diagrams and strength/flow/thermal calculations is a plus.
• Strong English communication skills, both oral and written.

Required skills

• Proficiency in 3D modelling and 2D drawing using SolidEdge or UG NX.
• Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
• Understanding of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) or Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) – considered a plus.
