Customer Engineer III – Etch Equipment

About the role

Applied Materials designs, builds and services cutting‑edge equipment for semiconductor and display manufacturing. As a Customer Engineer III – Etch, you will act as the primary liaison with customers in Chengdu, installing, maintaining and upgrading etch tools. The role combines hands‑on technical work with direct communication to ensure optimal equipment performance.

Key responsibilities

• Install, maintain and upgrade customer etch equipment.
• Apply basic diagnostic techniques and digital analytics to troubleshoot issues, with guidance from senior engineers.
• Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on electrical, vacuum, mechanical, plasma, hydraulic and gas systems.
• Collaborate with senior engineers and customers to understand process roadmaps and business challenges.
• Train and mentor junior field service engineers.
• Coordinate directly with customers to ensure smooth operations and high‑quality service.

Required profile

• Associate degree, military technical training, trade certification or equivalent field service experience.
• 4–7 years of experience in the semiconductor or equipment support industry.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, electronics, vacuum and thermodynamics.
• Proficiency with hand tools, digital multimeters and basic Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Valid driver’s license; ability to obtain a passport for travel.
• Willingness to meet on‑site safety, environmental and COVID‑19 requirements.
