Automation Engineer – Marine Heat & Gas Systems

About the role

As an Automation Engineer in the Business Unit Heat & Gas Systems (BU HGS) at the Qingdao Marine site, you will work within the Engineering & Supply organization to develop, maintain and support automation systems for boilers, burners, gas combustion units and exhaust gas cleaning products. You will ensure designs meet project‑specific requirements and act as the link between project teams, classification authorities and FAT testing teams.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and verify automation designs that comply with marine standards and classification requirements.
• Coordinate FAT testing of panels, handle feedback from on‑site debugging, and train testing personnel.
• Deliver tasks and documentation to internal and external stakeholders on schedule.
• Investigate next‑generation core automation platforms and review code blocks created by team members.
• Support automation solutions across the organization, ensuring smooth hand‑over to classification and testing phases.

Required profile

• Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Automation Engineering or a comparable technical background.
• Proven experience designing medium to large‑scale PLC control systems for marine or boiler applications.

Required skills

• PLC programming (Siemens, Mitsubishi, B&R) and HMI development (Siemens, B&R, Beijer).
• Proficiency in text‑based languages such as SCL and standard Function Block (FB) programming.
• Creating specifications for automated systems and test specifications.
• Strong knowledge of electrical components, instruments, sensors and control systems.
• Familiarity with boiler systems, exhaust gas cleaning products and marine classification standards.
