Associate or Senior Editor – Communications Chemistry

About the role

Springer Nature is seeking an Associate or Senior Editor to join Communications Chemistry, an open‑access journal covering all areas of the chemical sciences. The role is permanent, based in Shanghai (or Beijing or Madrid) and follows a hybrid working pattern. You will work closely with editors, authors and reviewers to ensure high‑quality scientific content is published.

Key responsibilities

• Handle original research papers, oversee peer review and make well‑reasoned editorial decisions.
• Engage with the external editorial board, guide editors and assist with recruitment and training of new board members.
• Liaise with editors across Springer Nature and the international scientific community, collaborating on journal initiatives.
• Commission and write content such as reviews, perspectives, research highlights and editorials.
• Contribute to defining journal strategy, editorial policies and publishing workflows.

Required profile

• PhD (or equivalent) in physical, analytical or theoretical chemistry or a closely related field.
• Strong passion for science and ability to assess novelty, context and impact of research across disciplines.
• Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
• Willingness to meet scientists worldwide, attend conferences and visit research institutions.
