Senior Manufacturing Development Engineer

About the role

Sonos is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Development Engineer to lead complex problem‑solving across sub‑assembly and final assembly processes, driving design for excellence and ensuring high‑quality, high‑volume production. The role bridges Mechanical Engineering and the manufacturing supply base, working closely with global suppliers and internal teams.

Key responsibilities

• Lead complex problem‑solving efforts across sub‑assembly and final assembly, defining issue resolution strategies.
• Drive DfX reviews, providing actionable design feedback to improve manufacturability, assembly, and serviceability.
• Direct multi‑disciplinary teams and external partners to develop robust manufacturing processes and solutions.
• Establish manufacturing strategies, including equipment selection, automation analysis, process development, and implementation.
• Architect complex assembly processes, including jigs, fixtures, and automation to ensure precise alignment of critical components.
• Develop and scale efficient, repeatable assembly processes across global suppliers, with expertise in adhesives, plastic welding, and fastening.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Science in Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering.
• 10+ years experience in high‑volume mechanical assembly process development.
• Deep experience in DfX analysis, PFMEA, DFMEA, control plans, SPC, DOE, GD&T, Six Sigma.
• Proven ability to lead cross‑functional product engineering teams and mentor junior engineers.
• Willingness to be office‑based in Shenzhen and travel within Asia (~15%).

Required skills

• Adhesive dispensing & curing, ultrasonic‑thermal‑IR welding of thermoplastics.
• Kinematic jig and fixture design.
• Machine controls, inspection vision systems, part handling automation.
• 3D CAD modeling (Siemens NX preferred).
• Knowledge of mechanical processing techniques such as CNC drilling/machining, paint application, ink printing.
