Research Associate – Semiconductor & Spintronics Physics

About the role

The research group of Prof. Xufeng Kou at ShanghaiTech University seeks a motivated Research Associate to lead independent projects in semiconductor and spintronics physics. The role involves material growth, device design, and experimental exploration of emerging electronic and magnetic phenomena.

Key responsibilities

• Perform Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE) growth of novel semiconductor materials.
• Investigate electron, spin, and magnetic properties using low‑temperature and high‑field measurements.
• Design and prototype low‑power, high‑speed, non‑volatile devices.
• Build, maintain, and upgrade laboratory facilities and instrumentation.
• Collaborate with group members and supervise junior students.

Required profile

• PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or Materials Science.
• Hands‑on experience with semiconductor physics, device fabrication, and characterization.
• Strong background in MBE growth and/or low‑temperature/high‑field measurement techniques.
• Knowledge of III‑V high‑speed devices and spintronic effects (e.g., spin‑orbit coupling, spin Hall effect, STT‑RAM) is a plus.
• Experience with integrated circuit design is highly desirable.
