R&D Engineer – High Voltage Switchgear

About the role

Join Hitachi Energy as an R&D Engineer focused on high‑voltage switchgear. You will be part of a global team that drives product development from concept through to service support, ensuring safety, reliability and efficiency for power networks worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the full product development cycle – concept, design, prototype, testing, documentation and manufacturing introduction.
• Provide technical support for the life‑cycle maintenance of HV switchgear, including production, master data, quality cases and design improvements.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams such as product management, quality, production operations and supply chain management.
• Create 3D models and 2D drawings using CAD tools, perform calculations and simulations, and conduct design reviews (DFMEA, DFM, DFA).
• Analyse quality cases, perform root‑cause investigations and ensure compliance with internal and external regulations.

Required profile

• Master’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in mechanical design, preferably with high‑voltage equipment.
• Proficiency with CAD software such as Creo and SolidWorks.
• Strong knowledge of metal material properties, manufacturing and fabrication processes.
• Experience with tolerance chain calculations and design quality‑control tools.
• Self‑motivated, innovative, systematic thinker with good communication skills and English proficiency.
