R&D Associate Engineer - Medium Voltage GIS (RMU)

About the role

ABB's Distribution Solutions Division in China is looking for an R&D Associate Engineer to join its Medium Voltage GIS (Gas Insulation Switchgear) team, focused on Ring Main Unit (RMU) products. The role supports the design and development of solutions aligned with market needs and emerging technologies, applying academic knowledge in a professional setting under the mentorship of an R&D Team Lead. The work model is onsite.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out mechanical and electrical design work for Medium Voltage GIS products, especially RMU units
• Take part in design analysis and optimisation (DFMA, FMEA, simulation)
• Help develop prototypes and coordinate with testing teams according to GB/IEC standards
• Learn new technologies and follow industry trends in GIS products
• Share technical insights with R&D projects and work with business teams
• Document design work, prepare technical reports and take part in design reviews and continuous improvement

Required profile

• Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline; fresh graduates
• Internship experience is a plus
• Good knowledge of mechanical design or high voltage and insulation technology
• Familiarity with engineering materials and manufacturing processes
• Fluent spoken and written English
• Curious, collaborative, proactive, self-motivated and able to meet deadlines
