Product Development Specialist

About the role

3M is seeking a Product Development Specialist to lead the creation and optimisation of fine‑chemical and adhesive products. The role combines laboratory formulation work with scale‑up to pilot and full‑scale manufacturing, ensuring products meet performance, quality and cost targets.

Key responsibilities

• Design and optimise formulations for fine chemicals and adhesives to satisfy project and customer specifications.
• Lead scale‑up activities from laboratory to pilot and commercial production.
• Provide technical support to manufacturing teams for process stability, quality improvement and issue resolution.
• Conduct material characterisation, performance testing and data analysis to inform development decisions.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams including lab, manufacturing, quality, sourcing and marketing to drive product commercialisation.
• Maintain comprehensive documentation of formulations, process parameters and technical reports.
• Support qualification, validation and compliance activities as required.

Required profile

• PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science or a related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in fine‑chemical, adhesive, coating or polymer‑based product development.
• Proven hands‑on laboratory formulation experience and familiarity with scale‑up processes.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across global functions.
