Principal Engineer, Intelligent Manufacturing

About the role

Johnsonelectric is hiring a Principal Engineer for its intelligent manufacturing team in Jiangmen. The role applies AI to motor assembly production, covering defect detection, equipment health monitoring, quality control and data analysis.

Key responsibilities

• Research motor assembly processes (parts assembly, final inspection, function tests) and design AI solutions such as machine-vision-based inspection for missing screws, fixture position and misassembled parts.
• Lead AI application projects: collect data, train models and deploy systems, using deep learning to recognise defects on the line and cut manual inspection costs.
• Build health-monitoring and fault-prediction models for machines, analysing temperature, vibration, resistance and current to predict tool wear and plan maintenance.
• Develop AI quality-control systems that monitor key indicators in real time, auto-determine product qualification, run online SPC (Cpk and control charts) and trace back unqualified products.
• Manage production data: set up a data warehouse, analyse data with tools and produce visual reports supporting management decisions.

Required profile

• Masters degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Automation, Mechanical Engineering (intelligent manufacturing direction), Industrial Engineering or a related field.
• 5-10 years of AI application development in manufacturing; experience in assembly manufacturing factories is preferred.
• At least one complete AI project, from requirements analysis and algorithm design to model training and system deployment.

Required skills

• Understanding of IIoT technologies and industrial automation control; basic PLC knowledge preferred.
• Basic knowledge of mechanical design and manufacturing processes.
