GIS Developer (Consultant)

About the role

The United Nations Office of Information and Communications Technology (OICT) is seeking a GIS Developer consultant to support its Enterprise Solutions Service. The 6‑month renewable contract is based in Deqing, Zhejiang, China and contributes to the UN's digital transformation agenda.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, program, test, debug and implement new applications with geospatial and/or AI components using UN standards.
• Prepare technical and user documentation, training materials and deliver technical presentations.
• Provide 3rd‑level support for deployed GIS systems, including version management, data recovery and troubleshooting.
• Manage and administer geospatial SQL databases.
• Monitor industry developments, benchmark tools and propose new libraries.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree (master’s or equivalent) in computer science, information systems, mathematics, statistics or a related field, or a first‑level degree with two additional years of relevant experience.
• Minimum three years of progressive experience in planning, designing, developing, implementing and maintaining geospatial systems using ArcGIS.
• At least three years of experience with ETL processes for geospatial data.
• Commitment to UN values, gender balance and work‑life balance (9‑17, five days a week).
