English Instructor

About the role

We are seeking an English Instructor to join Tsinghua University’s Language team in Beijing. The role involves teaching small, discussion‑style classes to scholars with a range of English proficiencies, from advanced to near‑native, and supporting their academic writing development.

Key responsibilities

• Teach small, discussion‑style classes to scholars of mixed English proficiencies (advanced to near‑native).
• Track individual student progress and provide regular, personalized feedback.
• Design and evaluate course materials and teaching resources as needed.
• Collaborate with the Language team to refine curriculum and standards.
• Maintain regular Writing Center office hours to give writing feedback.
• Partner with Academic and Student Life teams to design and host workshops on English and writing topics.
• Participate in Student Life activities such as Orientation and Deep Dive events.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in TESOL/TEFL, English, Journalism, a social science, or a related field (Bachelor’s degree with extensive related experience may be considered).
• Minimum 2 years of full‑time experience teaching English as an additional language, including academic or professional English.
• Native English fluency with excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Proven ability to work with students of varying English proficiencies, especially near‑native speakers.
• Sensitivity to students’ cultural differences and needs.
• Experience designing lesson plans and collaborating across disciplines.
