Digital Architecture and Solution R&D Director Engineer

About the role

ABB's Smart Building division in China is looking for a Digital Architecture and Solution R&D Director Engineer in Beijing. The role reports to the R&D and Technology Manager and works onsite, integrating ABB's Smart Building Energy Management Platform and digital products such as power meters and smart MCBs into end-to-end digital solutions for customers.

Key responsibilities

• Design and plan comprehensive digital solutions for customers based on their industry and application scenarios, covering architecture design, product selection, technology iteration and energy efficiency optimization, and take part in software architecture design and requirements analysis.
• Guide customers through product installation, integration and commissioning, and provide technical support so solutions are deployed successfully.
• Create solution documentation and best-practice guides, provide technical training, build knowledge bases and set medium- and long-term technology roadmaps.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or above in Electronic Information, Electrical Automation, Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience designing and implementing digital solutions for smart building terminal energy distribution.
• Familiarity with energy management platform infrastructure and system integration, and with product scenarios, standards and business processes in terminal distribution.
• Ability to communicate in English, written and spoken, and good teamwork and communication skills.
• Able to handle change and multiple tasks during development and to adapt to business trips.

Required skills

• Proficiency with energy management platforms and use cases, and ability to integrate ABB and third-party digital products.
• Knowledge of industrial communication protocols used in power distribution, and ability to install, configure and commission management platforms, edge gateways and digital terminals.
• Software-hardware co-commissioning and independent troubleshooting of technical issues.
• Pre-sales technical consultation and customer support.
• Understanding of solution architecture and software development, using one or more languages such as C#.NET, Python, Java or JavaScript.
