Customer Engineer (C1) – Field Service Role

Job description
Applied Materials is seeking a Customer Engineer (C1) to join its field service team in Chengdu, China. In this role you will act as the primary liaison with customers, installing, maintaining and upgrading semiconductor equipment. You will use digital analytics and basic diagnostic techniques, under guidance from senior engineers, to troubleshoot electrical, vacuum, mechanical, plasma, hydraulic and gas systems. The position involves preventative and corrective maintenance, coordination with customers, and adherence to safety and clean‑room protocols. Minimum qualifications include an associate degree, military technical training, field service experience or trade certification, basic mechanical aptitude and the ability to read electrical and mechanical schematics. Candidates should have experience diagnosing simple technical issues, effective written and verbal communication, and proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint. A valid driver’s license and ability to travel (≈20% travel) are required. Preferred experience includes 1‑2 years in customer or field service support, knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, electronics, vacuum or thermodynamics, and familiarity with hand tools and digital multimeters.
