Principal Associate, Immunology Discovery

About the role

Roche is hiring a Principal Associate in Immunology Discovery in Shanghai. The role works with a group of immunology, rheumatology and nephrology scientists and associates to provide expert biology support for preclinical and clinical studies of small-molecule therapeutic agents for autoimmune and kidney diseases. It is a single opening, with travel under 25%, and the title matches the candidate's qualifications and experience.

Key responsibilities

• Contribute to new hypotheses, target identification and execution of key experiments for target validation, and help draft and run research plans for new projects.
• Lead and run key in vitro and in vivo pharmacological experiments, coordinate cross-functional discovery communication and support projects with biology expertise.
• Assess potency, selectivity, safety, PK and PD of novel molecules (a plus).
• Design and run in vitro and in vivo studies of potency, selectivity and mechanism of action and efficacy.
• Drive or support target identification with translational medicine, disease biology and chemistry teams, and initiate new drug discovery projects.
• Analyse results, interpret them and present findings collaboratively.
• Develop methods and technologies to speed up projects, prepare SOPs, study reports and manuscripts, and maintain the laboratory and train junior scientists.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in immunology, molecular biology, mucosal immunology, nephrology, rheumatology or a related field; MD with medical knowledge is a plus.
• Industrial drug discovery experience is a plus; overseas education or training is preferred.
• Ability to communicate effectively, collaborate across functions and sites, and train junior associates and scientists.
• Good English and ability to present results internally and externally.

Required skills

• Deep knowledge of immunology and disease biology of the gut, kidneys and connective tissues is preferred.
• Experience in drug discovery, target identification and validation is a plus.
• Proficiency in designing experiments using modern cell biology, immunology, biochemistry, molecular biology and pharmacology techniques.
