Senior Director, Translational Medicine China

About the role

Roche is looking for a Senior Director to lead its Translational Medicine (TM) and Development Sciences (DevSci) teams in China. The role leads a lab-enabled team of 13+ researchers and scientists, oversees clinical development projects in China and the Asia Pacific region, and develops biomarker, companion diagnostic (CDx) and translational research strategies. It reports to the Head of Translational Medicine Oncology, with a dotted line to the Head of Development Sciences in Genentech Research and Early Development, and sits on the Roche Product Development China Leadership Team.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate globally with TM and DevSci leadership across Genentech Research and Early Development
• Lead China biomarker strategies, data analysis and interpretation, and present findings to review forums and governance committees
• Take part in Roche leadership activities such as the Product Development China Leadership team, HGRAC monitoring committee, China PHC working group and China Medical Affairs
• Help shape the biomarker regulatory strategy for China/APAC and prepare regulatory documents for health authorities
• Lead biomarker strategy for medical affairs-sponsored activities and build collaborations with key investigators and thought leaders
• Oversee DevSci goals in China (bioanalytical sciences and clinical pharmacology), including external bioanalytical service providers and health authority engagements
• Lead education on companion diagnostic assessments and translational research, and manage external vendor and institutional collaborator selection
• Present 2-5 year growth plans to global leadership teams

Required profile

• PhD, MD or PhD/MD in a relevant biological discipline
• At least 12 years of experience in biotech/pharma, including technologies, biomarkers and team leadership
• Drug development experience, including vendors and CROs in China and familiarity with Chinese regulatory and government policies
• Experience in clinical drug development and biomarkers is beneficial
• Understanding of diagnostic product development
• Willingness to travel less than 10% of the time
