Job description
About the role
Flexport is looking for a Payroll Manager to lead payroll across its APAC entities, from Australia through to India and beyond as new markets open. Reporting to the Senior Director, People APAC, this is a people-manager role leading a team of one, with significant cross-functional visibility. You will set the regional payroll standard, drive payroll strategy and work with Finance, People Operations and business partners so every employee is paid accurately and on time.
Key responsibilities
- Own end-to-end regional payroll: lead monthly processing across 18+ APAC entities, manage vendor relationships and ensure timely, accurate execution at scale.
- Handle direct payroll execution, coordinating with payroll vendors to calculate and finalise local payroll runs.
- Lead and develop a direct report responsible for payroll data preparation, setting priorities and reviewing quality.
- Drive data accuracy with Finance on payment funding, GL booking, cost centre allocation and month-end reconciliations.
- Support the full employee lifecycle: off-cycle payments, bonus runs, statutory pay and compliance with local labour requirements.
- Partner with the Expansion team to onboard new entities onto payroll, from vendor setup to first run.
- Support the regional bonus scheme and act as the audit and compliance expert, owning external audit requests and documentation standards.
- Elevate vendor performance by managing SLAs across a multi-vendor footprint.
- Calculate statutory leave pay, manage overtime compliance, process merit increases and promotions, and handle equity-related withholding for RSU vesting.
Required profile
- 8+ years of hands-on APAC payroll experience, including 3+ years managing a team and ownership of 5+ countries' payroll at scale (ideally 10+).
- Broad multi-country experience across Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, Greater China, Vietnam, Thailand, Korea, Japan, Indonesia, Cambodia, Philippines and India, with a track record of building payroll from scratch in new markets.
- Deep knowledge of statutory compliance, local labour laws and payroll vendor management.
- Proven people-management experience and strong communication across Finance, People Operations and business partners.
- Professional proficiency in English is a must.
Required skills
- Experience with HRIS platforms, specifically Workday.
- Hands-on use of modern AI assistants for data analysis, reporting and modelling.
- Ability to partner with Finance on reconciliations, GL allocations and audit deliverables.
