NC EXPA Surveyor – Marine Inspection

About the role

The NC EXPA Surveyor conducts marine inspections and surveys for Bureau Veritas in Shanghai, ensuring compliance with technical standards and client requirements. The role involves close coordination with the Operational Manager and various technical divisions.

Key responsibilities

• Perform inspection/survey tasks as directed by the Operational Manager for each SMS section.
• Apply marine procedures, technical working instructions, BV rules, standards, regulations, specifications, and relevant drawings as technical guidance.
• Use personal safety equipment, BV stamps, tools and the VeristarPM system in accordance with work instructions.
• Obtain voluntary qualification/certification according to China MSA requirements in liaison with the operations manager.
• Prepare draft records, reports and certificates within the required schedule.
• Provide information to secretaries for invoicing.
• Sign and endorse certificates, reports, attestations and other documents related to inspections/surveys.
• File and update quality documents, including technical working instructions.
• Participate in canvassing activities coordinated with the Operational Manager.
• Refer client claims or complaints to the Department Manager for transfer to the Quality Manager.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent sea‑going experience as a certificated ship engineer officer.
• Minimum of 5 years' professional experience in a similar or related field.
• Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
• Enthusiastic and focused on client service delivery.
• Team spirit with strong communication skills and cultural awareness.
• Ability to work under pressure and independently.
• Committed to continuous improvement and capable of implementing changes.
• Flexible, eager to learn and develop new skills.
• Strong awareness of corporate health and safety policies and proactive in their application.
• Commercially aware and willing to travel and work outside the base city.
