Manufacturing Design Engineer - Mechanical

About the role

The Reality Labs (RL) team at Meta is building hardware and software that enable immersive AR/VR experiences. As a Manufacturing Design Engineer – Mechanical you will lead the development of manufacturing processes for optical and mechanical components, turning innovative designs into scalable products for Smart Glass and AR/VR devices.

Key responsibilities

• Drive process innovation for mechanical and optical components, including molding, forging, assembly, and surface finishing.
• Collaborate with hardware engineering, sourcing, quality, and tech‑ops teams to select and audit supplier partners.
• Develop and qualify manufacturing processes for window production, optical coatings, film/lens lamination, die‑cutting, laser cutting, and crystal adhesion.
• Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles, create MP intent equipment, and define CTQ criteria.
• Perform statistical analysis on trial data and support root‑cause investigations.
• Define quality inspection methods and qualification plans with internal quality teams.
• Debug mechanical/optical issues from NPI through ramp, delivering process optimizations.
• Travel to vendor sites in China to validate and support project development.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Materials Engineering or a related field.
• Proven experience in manufacturing process development for hardware products.
• Ability to work independently and coordinate across cross‑functional teams.
