Managing Editor – Collections Management & Acquisition

About the role

Springer Nature is seeking a Managing Editor to lead the planning and delivery of commissioned collections across its journal portfolio. Based in Shanghai, Beijing or Nanjing, the role works in a hybrid model, collaborating with commissioning editors, guest editors, authors and internal teams to ensure high‑quality content is published on schedule.

Key responsibilities

• Project management of live collections from inception to publication.
• Support commissioning editors, guest editors and authors with queries.
• Coordinate with the Marketing department for collection promotion.
• Serve as primary contact for guest editors throughout the collection lifecycle.
• Report on collection performance and monitor content flow against submission windows.
• Provide enhanced oversight to maintain service quality and act as escalation point.
• Filter manuscripts and ensure rigorous peer‑review for commissioned content.
• Assign new submissions to assistant editors and support as needed.
• Monitor turnaround times and contribute to workflow documentation.
• Liaise with production and other operational teams for query resolution.

Required profile

• Solid experience with journal publishing workflows, especially submit‑to‑accept processes.
• Good understanding of publishing ethics and integrity issues.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Excellent administrative and organisational abilities.
