Health Unit Coordinator, Heart Lung Vascular

About the role

The Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) provides essential clerical and secretarial support to the nursing unit within the Heart Lung Vascular department. Working night shifts, the HUC ensures smooth patient flow, accurate documentation, and timely communication between clinical staff.

Key responsibilities

• Perform admission, discharge, transfer, and death clerical procedures.
• Alert licensed nursing personnel to STAT orders and transcribe physician orders promptly.
• Requisition supplies, maintain equipment inventories, and prepare related forms.
• Answer telephone and intercom calls, relay messages, and document communications.
• Assist physicians in obtaining lab, radiology, and other diagnostic reports.
• Schedule patient tests, diagnostic procedures, and physician appointments.
• Organize patient charts, label and replenish forms, and obtain external patient records.
• Manage patient flow using the flowboard and ensure appropriate discharge disposition in electronic medical records.
• Follow all policies, procedures, safety standards, and complete annual education assignments.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
• No specific prior experience required.
• No licensure required.
