Data Science & AI Specialist

About the role

ABB is hiring a Data Science & AI Specialist in Xiamen, reporting to the Digital Solution Engineering Specialist. The role delivers and implements analytics strategy in one or more functional areas, driving data-driven decisions for predictive analytics and optimization through AI and machine learning, and building large-scale statistical models. It contributes to the ELDS in China and is an onsite position.

Key responsibilities

• Virtual Power Plant Trading Algorithm Development: design and implement aggregation control and trading optimization algorithms, research multi-objective optimization for coordinating generation, grid, load and storage, and build real-time power balance and dispatch forecasting models.
• Intelligent Agent Algorithm Development: develop distributed decision-making agents for autonomous microgrid operation and improve the perception-decision-execution chain of embodied intelligent systems.
• Power Distribution Equipment Asset Health Assessment: build device state monitoring and health assessment models, research predictive maintenance algorithms, and perform anomaly detection and fault warning with multi-source data.
• Data-Driven Application Exploration: process time series data from power systems, perform feature engineering and model optimization, and take part in algorithm validation and implementation.
• Technology Transformation and Collaboration: work with cloud platform teams to implement algorithm engineering, write technical documentation and algorithm white papers, and summarize best practices.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or above in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Applied Mathematics or a related field.
• Familiarity with common machine learning and deep learning algorithms (supervised, unsupervised, reinforcement learning).
• Strong learning ability, communication skills and ability to work under pressure.
• Preferred: understanding of power system fundamentals or smart grid concepts, project experience with time series forecasting or anomaly detection, and familiarity with microgrids, virtual power plants and demand-side response.

Required skills

• Proficiency in at least one of Python, Golang or Java, with awareness of code standards and engineering best practices.
• Database tools such as PostgreSQL.
