Customer Engineer III

About the role

As a Customer Engineer III at Applied Materials, you will act as the primary liaison with customers, installing, maintaining and upgrading advanced semiconductor equipment. You will use digital analytics and basic diagnostic techniques to troubleshoot and ensure optimal performance of complex systems.

Key responsibilities

• Install, maintain and upgrade customer equipment, collaborating with senior engineers and customers to understand roadmaps and business challenges.
• Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on electrical, vacuum, mechanical, plasma, hydraulic and gas systems.
• Coordinate directly with customers to ensure smooth operations and high‑quality service.
• Train and mentor junior field service engineers.

Required profile

• Associate degree, military technical training, trade certification or equivalent field service experience.
• 4‑7 years of experience in the semiconductor or equipment support industry.
• Advanced mechanical aptitude with knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, electronics, vacuum and thermodynamics.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel (≈20% of time).

Required skills

• Use of hand tools and digital multimeters.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
• Basic diagnostic techniques for equipment troubleshooting.
