Customer Engineer (C1) – Field Service Role

About the role

Applied Materials, a global leader in materials science and semiconductor equipment, is seeking a Customer Engineer (C1) to join its field service team in Wuxi, China. In this role you will act as the primary liaison with customers, installing, maintaining and upgrading advanced equipment that supports AI and next‑generation chip production.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with senior engineers to install, maintain and upgrade customer equipment.
• Use digital analytics and basic diagnostic techniques to troubleshoot technical issues.
• Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on electrical, vacuum, mechanical, plasma, hydraulic and gas systems.
• Coordinate directly with customers to ensure smooth operations and high‑quality service.
• Fulfill additional duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Associate degree, military technical training, field service experience or trade certification.
• Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to read electrical and mechanical schematics.
• Experience diagnosing and resolving basic technical challenges.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain a passport for travel.

Required skills

• Digital analytics for equipment troubleshooting.

• Knowledge of electrical, vacuum, mechanical, plasma, hydraulic and gas systems.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
• Use of hand tools and digital multimeters.
