Associate Software Engineering Manager

About the role

We are seeking an experienced professional to join HSBC as an Associate Software Engineering Manager, leading data engineering delivery and a team within the Asia & Middle East Technology business.

Key responsibilities

• Lead end‑to‑end delivery of ELT pipelines on BigQuery and dbt, including design, build, test, release and hyper‑care.
• Develop and review production‑quality Python code for data processing, automation and operational tooling.
• Enable BI outcomes using Apache Superset, supporting dataset modelling, metric governance and performant dashboards.
• Implement data quality, reconciliation controls and non‑functional requirements such as security, monitoring and resilience.
• Provide people leadership: hiring, onboarding, coaching, performance management and career development.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading end‑to‑end ETL delivery, from requirements through production support.
• Strong RDBMS/SQL skills, including complex queries, performance tuning and troubleshooting.
• Hands‑on Python development for data processing and automation, delivering clean, maintainable production code.
• Experience delivering analytics/BI solutions, preferably with Apache Superset.
• Confidence with Linux and shell scripting for job automation and incident diagnosis.
• Demonstrated technical ownership and ability to work independently while managing delivery risks.
• People‑leadership experience: planning work, delegating, coaching team members and managing performance.
