Associate Professor of Practice and Above in Economics

About the role

Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) is hiring full-time, practice-track faculty in Economics at the rank of Associate Professor of Practice and above within the Department of Economics, International Business School Suzhou (IBSS), in Suzhou, China. The positions suit experienced professionals who can bring industry, government or policy expertise to teaching, business engagement and student development.

Key responsibilities

• Teaching at all levels, including undergraduate, master's and executive education programmes.
• Professional practice and service to the School, divided into three areas: business value and external engagement (partnerships, income generation, executive education, consulting, professional networks); student opportunities and professional development (recruitment and employability, internships, mentoring, company visits, certifications); and practice impact and knowledge transfer (teaching cases, policy and industry reports, media engagement).
• Leadership and service roles within the Department, School or University.

Required profile

• At least seven years of professional experience in industry or policy institutions such as NGOs, think tanks, government bodies, central banks or professional institutions.
• Relevant roles such as Policy Economist, Senior Economist, Economic Policy Analyst or Economic Advisor.
• A proven record of measurable impact on policy or industry practice, with an established professional network in industry and/or government.
• Adaptability and ability to work in a collegial environment.
• For Professor-level appointments: leadership experience in external relationships, revenue channels, client portfolios or strategic partnerships, and a record of influential outputs such as business intelligence and policy reports.

Preferred qualifications

• Expertise in AI-related industries and the pharmaceutical industry.
• A master's degree in Economics or a related field.
• Higher education teaching experience.
