About the role

Springer Nature is seeking an Associate or Senior Editor to join the editorial team of its open‑access journal covering optics and photonics. The role is ideal for scientists who love reading research beyond their own niche and want to shape the direction of high‑impact publications.

Key responsibilities

• Handle original research submissions from receipt to publication.
• Assess manuscripts, select suitable reviewers, and oversee the peer‑review process.
• Make well‑reasoned editorial decisions in collaboration with the journal’s Editorial Board.
• Maintain high decision quality and ensure compliance with publishing workflows and systems.
• Collaborate closely with other editors and contribute to journal strategy.

Required profile

• Passion for science and a habit of reading papers outside one’s immediate field.
• Strong critical eye and ability to think quickly.
• Demonstrated experience in optics or photonics research.
• Excellent written communication skills in English.
