Thermal Engineer – eDrive System (EM)

Bosch Group · Shanghai

CDI 🇬🇧 English
Thermal and fluid simulation development Lubrication and cooling simulation for reducers Simulation automation

Job description

About the role

The Thermal Engineer (eDrive System – EM) will develop and validate thermal and fluid simulations for integrated electric drive systems used in new energy vehicles. The role focuses on both system‑level and component‑level heat transfer, cooling and lubrication analyses to ensure reliable performance across the vehicle’s operating envelope.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop steady‑state and transient thermal and fluid simulation models for 3‑in‑1 electric drive systems (motor, inverter, reducer).
  • Perform motor cooling simulations (water, oil, spray, hollow‑shaft) and evaluate winding and magnet temperatures, including demagnetisation risk.
  • Simulate thermal behavior of power electronics (IGBT/SiC), PCBs and capacitors, calculate junction temperatures and thermal resistance.
  • Conduct lubrication and cooling analysis for reducers, covering gear churning, bearing oil supply, two‑phase flow and pressure drop.
  • Build 1D/3D thermal models, run co‑simulations, match vehicle cooling loops and verify thermal balance under CLTC, WLTC, climbing and overload cycles.
  • Participate in bench and vehicle thermal tests, calibrate models with test data and continuously improve prediction accuracy.
  • Propose design optimisations for flow channels, oil and water circuits and collaborate with mechanical, electromagnetic and control teams.
  • Define modelling standards, boundary‑condition guidelines and implement DOE‑based multi‑objective optimisation and simulation automation.

Required profile

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Thermophysics, Energy & Power Engineering, Vehicle Engineering, Mechanical, Electrical, Fluid Mechanics or related field; Master’s preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of heat transfer, fluid dynamics and thermal management of electric drive components.
  • Fluent in English, both spoken and written.

Required skills

  • Thermal and fluid simulation development (steady‑state and transient)
  • Motor cooling analysis (water, oil, spray, hollow‑shaft)
  • Electromagnetic‑thermal coupling simulation
  • Power electronics thermal analysis (IGBT, SiC, PCB, capacitors)
  • Lubrication and cooling simulation for gear reducers
  • 1D/3D thermal modelling and co‑simulation
  • DOE multi‑objective optimisation and simulation automation
  • Calibration of models with bench and vehicle test data
  • Proficiency in English
