Software Engineer I – Global Trade Platform

About the role

Flexport is building the operating system for global trade. As a Software Engineer I you will join a team that creates highly available, secure micro‑service applications that power freight forwarding, customs brokerage, and logistics workflows.

Key responsibilities

• Build highly available, secure, distributed systems in a micro‑service architecture.
• Design, develop, test and maintain services that model logistics entities such as shipper, cargo, carrier, and container.
• Collaborate with senior engineers to solve complex business and technical problems.
• Ship product updates rapidly, deploying to production dozens of times per day.
• Maintain high quality by monitoring metrics, conducting post‑mortems, and applying best‑practice improvements.

Required profile

• 1+ years of software development experience and a strong engineering background.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Passion for simple, well‑tested code that is easy to extend.
• Bias for action and quick learning ability.
• Familiarity with professional software engineering practices across the full development lifecycle.

Required skills

• Proficiency in at least one language such as Ruby, C, C++, Java, or Kotlin.
• Experience with micro‑service and distributed system design.
• Knowledge of source control management (e.g., Git).
• Understanding of continuous integration/continuous deployment pipelines.
• Testing and quality assurance practices.
