Senior Scientist, Antibody Discovery

About the role

Roche Innovation Center Shanghai (CICoR) is looking for a Senior Scientist to discover novel antibody leads for therapeutic development. The role works with teams in antibody engineering, protein sciences, structural biology, AIDD, pharmaceutical sciences, CMC and disease areas such as immunology, oncology and cardiovascular/metabolic diseases. The final level of the position depends on the candidate's experience and qualifications.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the antibody discovery team in generating antibody leads from in vivo or in vitro platforms for CICoR's therapeutic antibody pipeline.
• Design discovery campaign strategies for each project, including immunization, screening assays, hit selection and screening for single B and/or phage library approaches.
• Lead experiments such as single B cell processing, V gene cloning/sequencing, yeast and/or phage library panning and screening, and activity confirmation.
• Act as Research Project Co-Lead (Co-RPL) for multidisciplinary collaboration between functional groups and potentially pRED/gRED until PCC stage.
• Apply AI/ML capabilities in discovery campaigns.
• Coordinate with CROs and monitor outsourced activities for timely delivery of data or products.
• Monitor discovery technology development and evaluate or develop new technologies for in-house use.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in biological sciences with at least 5 years in antibody discovery, preferably in biotechnology or pharma.
• Track record of effective antibody discovery in drug discovery programs is highly desirable.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills, with a commitment to matrix teams and member development.

Required skills

• Deep understanding of antibody discovery technologies and workflows.
• Rich experience in single B technology and display (yeast or phage, preferably both).
• High-throughput antibody screening assay design and execution.
• Bulk antibody sequence analysis (e.g. NGS) and microfluidics-based single-cell sorting (a great bonus).
• Library design and construction with AI/ML (highly desired), and cloud or high-performance computing such as AWS or GCP (highly preferred).
