Senior Field Application Engineer - Automotive MCU
nxp · Shanghai (JingAn)
Job description
About the role
NXP is looking for a Senior Field Application Engineer in Shanghai to provide customer-facing technical support for Automotive MCU-based applications across several automotive domains. The role works closely with customer engineering teams to ensure smooth project execution, timely issue resolution and effective adoption of Automotive MCU platforms, such as Body/Zone Controllers and Infotainment (Radio/Audio). It suits someone who can support both key accounts and mass-market customers.
Key responsibilities
- Provide on-site and remote technical support for Automotive MCU projects and act as the main technical interface for assigned customers during development, validation and early production.
- Support applications including AUTOSAR-based and non-AUTOSAR Body and Zone Controllers, and Radio, Audio and Infotainment systems, helping with MCU bring-up, peripheral configuration and system integration.
- Analyze and resolve issues across hardware, software and system levels, including embedded software debugging, drivers, RTOS integration and AUTOSAR CP-based systems, coordinating with internal AE, R&D and product teams.
- Help customers understand automotive cybersecurity concepts (secure boot, secure communication, key management) and functional safety (ISO 26262).
- Support key accounts and mass-market customers, taking part in design reviews, technical discussions and on-site debug sessions, and keeping issues and project status documented.
- Support customer adoption of reference designs and demos, deliver technical workshops, guide customers through NPI phases and collect and relay customer feedback.
Required profile
- 3-5 years of experience in automotive electronics, embedded systems or customer-facing technical roles (FAE, Application Engineer, Technical Support).
- Practical experience supporting customer projects rather than pure R&D ownership.
- Strong customer orientation, ability to handle multiple issues and projects in parallel, and comfort working independently at customer sites.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally, and English for daily technical communication.
- Preferred: experience with automotive OEMs or Tier-1 customers, exposure to automotive Ethernet or time-sensitive networking, and experience with system validation or field issue troubleshooting.
Required skills
- Solid experience with Automotive MCU platforms (AMCU) and familiarity with ADC, timers, PWM, communication interfaces, DMA and basic system resources.
- Embedded software stacks, BSPs and peripheral drivers; AUTOSAR Classic (CP) knowledge is a strong plus.
- Embedded debugging tools (JTAG, trace, logging, memory analysis).
- Basic understanding of automotive cybersecurity and ISO 26262; GenAI and Edge AI experience is a strong plus.
