Principal Application Engineer - Ethernet Products

About the role

NXP's in-vehicle networking product line is one of its fastest growing areas, and the systems and applications team supports customers in automotive and increasingly industrial and robotics fields. This Principal Application Engineer position is based in Shanghai and focuses on Ethernet Switch and PHY products, with emphasis on software and system aspects.

Key responsibilities

• Provide customer application support and system solutions for Ethernet Switch and PHY products, including on-site support within customer programs
• Update Ethernet communication devices to customer configurations and firmware code; experience coding with AI is appreciated
• Lead development of customer enablement and configuration tools, updating generic switch functions and customised applications
• Create customer-facing technical documents such as application notes, white papers, FAQs and product training materials
• Initiate and lead reference designs and product or system solution demonstrators with other application teams, internally and with third parties
• Run trainings and workshops with manufacturers and their electronic subsystem suppliers in China
• Contribute to China's local thought leadership through customer proof-of-concept and design-in projects, conferences, trade fairs and articles

Required profile

• 7-10 years of experience in embedded software development
• Degree in Electronics, Communications, Computer Science or a similar field
• Fluent English
• Proven problem-solving capability, for example in automotive or robotics domains
• Able to build strong relationships with internal and external customers

• Embedded software and microcontroller programming
• Ethernet firmware and real-time operating systems
• Higher-layer protocols and Ethernet network systems
• Knowledge of Ethernet switches and physical layer products configuration
• First-hand experience with time synchronization and TSN protocols in Ethernet networks
