Regional Data & AI Engineer, Operations, Asia Pacific

About the role

The Regional Data & AI Engineer will build and advance a scalable data and AI backbone for smart manufacturing across BASF Coatings sites in Asia Pacific. The role combines the creation of a standardized production data architecture with the translation of data into business value through advanced analytics, AI/ML, and agentic AI solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Define and implement target architecture for capturing, integrating, and providing production and process data across multiple sites.
• Develop and apply standards for IT/OT integration of sensors, PLC, SCADA, historian, MES, LIMS, quality, and ERP systems, ensuring data quality, availability, and cybersecurity.
• Design production data models to support reporting, root‑cause analysis, process optimization, and advanced AI applications.
• Provide technical leadership and consulting to business functions, production sites, and project teams, translating requirements into robust solutions.
• Establish and maintain regional standards for data models, interfaces, documentation, and governance.
• Collaborate with an international network of sites and experts to drive global roadmaps and continuous improvement.
• Design, develop, and industrialise AI‑ML and agentic AI solutions such as predictive analytics, intelligent process control, and decision‑support systems.
• Identify, evaluate, and manage partnerships with external vendors, startups, and technology providers.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence or a comparable technical field.
• Minimum 5 years of professional experience in data architecture, data integration, and industrial data environments.
• Proven ability to work across multiple manufacturing sites and deliver data‑driven solutions.
