Privacy Assistant Legal Counsel

About the role

The Privacy Assistant Legal Counsel will support the legal team in drafting, reviewing and negotiating contracts related to IT, digital and HR projects that involve personal data. Working under the supervision of a Senior Legal Counsel, the role ensures compliance with China’s data protection regulations and assists project teams throughout the contract lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review and negotiate IT, Digital & HR contracts involving personal data, aligning with the Privacy Legal Counsel.
• Report on contract status and manage timelines for IT, Digital & HR privacy‑impact projects.
• Assist project teams in conducting Personal Information Protection Impact Assessments (PIPIA).
• Develop and update policies, guidance and procedures for data privacy and protection compliance.
• Monitor changes in data‑related laws, regulations and standards, and keep the organization informed.
• Provide training and guidance on data protection compliance in China.
• Review compliance of generative AI applications.
• Support ad‑hoc legal assignments as required by the business.

Required profile

• Qualified PRC lawyer with a specialization in data privacy.
• 5‑7 years of experience in reputable law firms or multinational companies, including 2‑3 years focused on privacy.
• Experience in the retail industry is a plus.
• Possession of an IAPP certification is advantageous.
• Strong understanding of China’s legal and regulatory landscape for data compliance, high‑tech and AI.
• Fluent in both Chinese and English.
