HR Generalist

About the role

The HR Generalist supports daily HR operations for a manufacturing plant within Corning’s Optical Communications segment. The role focuses on recruitment, employee relations, training coordination, HR data maintenance, and performance management to ensure smooth HR processes.

Key responsibilities

• Deploy hiring processes for hourly and temporary workers.
• Educate plant leadership on union contracts and local/state employment law.
• Manage employee grievances and foster open communication for issue resolution.
• Coach plant management on leadership and positive work‑environment practices.
• Resolve employee‑relations issues fairly while maintaining plant efficiency.
• Inform employees about shared‑service and third‑party vendor capabilities.
• Own HR initiatives such as attendance tracking, training programs, and communications.
• Track and document employment matters (e.g., FMLA, workers’ compensation) for compliance.
• Identify turnover drivers and collaborate with the Plant HR Manager on improvement actions.

Required profile

• Experience supporting HR operations in a manufacturing environment.
• Knowledge of union contracts and employment law.
• Strong employee‑relations and grievance‑handling skills.
• Ability to coach and develop plant leadership.
• Proficiency in tracking HR metrics and compliance documentation.
