Head of Talent

About the role

Build AI is a data hyperscaler for physical AI, with a team of 10 people in Shenzhen that plans to grow to 30+ by the end of the year. As Head of Talent you are the first person every candidate meets: you run the search process, find the people, judge them and close them.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the headhunters: onboard, brief and push search firms, give them fast feedback and drop the ones that do not deliver.
• Build your own pipeline using your network, referrals and outbound outreach.
• Screen every candidate yourself for culture and drive, and act as the first interviewer.
• Run work trials, coordinate with founders and team leads, and close offers including compensation, start date, relocation and family arrangements.
• Keep the hiring system clean, tracking every candidate, interview and decision in Ashby.
• Hire first: a software generalist for the vendor platform, mechanical engineers for next-gen hardware, a supply chain manager, then firmware, hardware, ML, logistics, compliance and finance roles.

Required profile

• Full fluency in Mandarin and English, able to work full time in Shenzhen.
• A compelling presence and a sharp judgment of character.
• An early track record of doing something exceptionally well; backgrounds such as VC, early-stage startup, consulting, special projects or recruiting are good.
• No technical background or prior recruiting experience required.
• Strong signals include leading recruiting at a top Chinese hardware or AI company, closing 20+ engineers in a year, hiring talent that competitors fought for, or sourcing founders and building a startup's first hires.
