Executive Publisher, HSS China

About the role

Springer Nature is seeking an Executive Publisher to lead and grow its Humanities & Social Sciences (HSS) portfolio in China. Reporting to the Publishing Director, you will act as a senior ambassador for the brand, shaping strategy and driving business performance across a multidisciplinary team.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute portfolio strategies that deliver sustainable growth, market leadership and long‑term value.
• Own portfolio performance metrics including submissions, publications, revenue, impact and quality.
• Lead multidisciplinary publishing teams, fostering collaboration across editorial, sales and production functions.
• Develop high‑value partnerships within the Chinese academic and research community.
• Drive portfolio expansion in line with Springer Nature’s strategic priorities.
• Provide market intelligence, business insights and data‑driven recommendations.

Required profile

• Senior‑level experience in academic or scientific publishing, preferably within the HSS sector.
• Strong strategic mindset with a proven track record of business development and portfolio management.
• Excellent understanding of the Chinese research ecosystem and ability to build influential relationships.
• Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to represent the organisation at senior levels.
