Electrical Engineer - Power Transformers

About the role

Hitachi Energy's Transformer Business Unit in Greater China operates across 55 cities, employs over 1,900 staff and runs 5 transformer manufacturing plants. This full-time, on-site position in Zhongshan involves designing and developing electrical systems for transformers, working with mechanical engineers, manufacturing teams and suppliers.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and layouts for various transformer types
• Perform calculations and simulations for insulation coordination, short-circuit currents and thermal performance
• Select and specify electrical components, materials and equipment based on technical requirements and cost-effectiveness
• Test and validate electrical designs and prototypes, and resolve issues
• Collaborate with mechanical engineers, manufacturing teams and suppliers on system integration
• Maintain technical documentation such as specifications, test reports and operating manuals
• Take part in root cause analysis of electrical failures and implement corrective actions
• Support production and quality control of electrical components and systems
• Ensure compliance with external and internal regulations and follow safety and integrity values

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field; Master's degree preferred
• Proven experience in electrical design and development, preferably in the power transformer industry
• Strong knowledge of electrical power systems, high-voltage engineering and electromagnetic principles
• Experience with electrical testing equipment and procedures
• Fluency in English; Mandarin Chinese is a plus

Required skills

• Electrical design software such as AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN and SolidWorks Electrical
• Familiarity with international standards such as IEC and ANSI for transformers and electrical equipment
• Problem-solving skills, attention to detail and teamwork
