Daily On‑Call Substitute Teacher – Elementary

About the role

Western Academy of Beijing is seeking enthusiastic educators to join the elementary school on an on‑call basis. As a daily substitute, you will step into homeroom classrooms, delivering the curriculum and supporting students while gaining insight into our community.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver the teaching and learning programme for the assigned grade level.
• Collaborate with a multi‑teacher homeroom team and student support staff to ensure inclusive learning.
• Work closely with the grade‑level team on long‑range and unit planners.
• Apply an inquiry‑based approach and differentiate instruction for diverse learners.
• Communicate regularly with parents and attend parent‑teacher conferences as needed.
• Contribute to extracurricular activities and school development initiatives.

Required profile

• Strong ability to build effective relationships with staff, students and parents.
• Excellent oral and written communication, including for EAL families.
• Experience working with students of varied abilities and backgrounds.
• Proficiency in inquiry‑based learning and integrating ICT across the curriculum.
• Sound understanding of contemporary teaching theories, collaborative planning, differentiation, guided inquiry and the Reggio Emilia philosophy.
• Minimum five years successful experience as a homeroom teacher; ESOL and PYP experience preferred.
• College or university degree required.
