Customs Classification Specialist

About the role

Givaudan, a global supplier of food, fragrance and flavour ingredients, is looking for a Customs Classification Specialist in Shanghai. As part of the Customs Classification team, the specialist manages HS (Harmonized System) classifications for ingredients, raw materials, compounds, manufacturing products and samples, advises business on customs classification issues and keeps the group's classification systems and data accurate.

Key responsibilities

• Daily management of HS classifications for ingredients, raw materials, compounds, manufacturing products and samples
• Determine and assign international and local customs classifications based on the WCO Harmonized coding schedule
• Maintain and update international and national classification codes when the tariff nomenclature changes
• Analyze and review the tariff numbers of the products portfolio and of acquisitions before they enter the company systems
• Answer inquiries about HS classification to ensure timely clearance
• Support the Head of Customs Classification in defining, maintaining and documenting HS determination criteria, and in keeping HS and national codes accurate
• Report regularly to management on the risks, issues and disputes linked to HS classification and their business impact
• Work with the Global classification team to harmonise product family classifications

Required profile

• University degree in chemistry or a similar field such as food or chemical engineering
• Minimum five years of experience in flavour, fragrance, food, chemicals or related industries, customs authorities, customs brokers or consulting firms
• Good knowledge of customs and import/export regulations
• English is mandatory; ability to prioritise, work independently and work in a multi-national environment

Required skills

• SAP and SAP-GTS experience is a plus
• Microsoft tools such as Excel and PowerPoint
