VP/AVP Risk Manager

About the role

AB China FMC, a wholly owned subsidiary of AB Global Investment Management, is looking for a Risk Manager (AVP or VP) in Shanghai, reporting to the Chief Compliance Officer. The role drives the firm's risk management programmes, including its operational risk framework, risk maps, error and incident management processes and investment risk framework, and helps build operational excellence.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and enhance the operational and investment risk frameworks, and deliver risk analysis and insights to the Board, Risk Control Committee, Risk Management Committee, CEO and COO.
• Maintain operational risk policies, standards for risk assessment, error reporting and resolution, and risk incident and breach reporting processes.
• Design and deliver operational risk training for new joiners, senior leaders and all FMC employees, and partner with SBU leaders and global risk colleagues to embed risk culture.
• Oversee investment risk: portfolio-level risk analysis, performance attribution, stress tests, scenario and liquidity analysis, counterparty approval process, and risk reviews of new products, vendors and third parties.
• Support client RFP and due diligence on operational risk, and coordinate with Compliance, Legal and Internal Audit on system and control issues.
• Ensure regulatory changes on risk management are implemented, and attend industry events to share best practice globally.
• Recruit, mentor and manage direct reports, and take part in recruitment, performance management, promotion, change management and diversity and inclusion.

Required profile

• Significant previous experience in risk management within the onshore China investment management sector.
• Experience implementing operational and/or risk management policies, procedures, systems, reporting and management information.
• Experience delivering presentations to senior management and governance committees, and delivering operational risk training.
• Strong written and oral communication, self-starter with initiative, strong organisation and attention to detail.
• English proficiency.

• Experience with xQuant, WIND and similar tools.
• Analytical skills, intellectual curiosity and good interpersonal skills.
